of course car repairs are what we call a “bread and butter” job. Hence, i thought that i would show a video to demonstrate the things that our technicians have to do when repairing a car.
We often have our customers ringing us. Significantly, they ask the question, “how can i tell if my car needs repairing”. Therefore, I usually answer with the same explanation. You’ll know when the vehicle requires attention! So, when a car eventually arrives in the workshop. We treat it with extreme care and attention.

This article highlights the new safety investment and the recent incident at Pellon Tyres in your style.

Investing in Safety:

Pellon Tyres’ New Spring Compression Cage

You can bet your last penny that working in the automotive trade will keep you on your toes, but you never know what the day may bring! At Halifax’s Pellon Tyres, we take great pride in the excellent quality of our work and—above all—the security of our employees. However, life occasionally throws us a curveball that forces us to think, adjust, and change.

During recent car coil spring replacement work, one of our reliable mechanics—who has been with us for a long time—had an event of this kind. Compressing an automobile spring can be a bit of a nerve-wracking experience for those who are not familiar with it. A lot of force is involved, and if things go wrong, it’s like trying to restrain a tangled beast. Unfortunately, the beast prevailed on this specific day. When the spring came loose, it exploded with a loud crack and almost hit our man in the face.

We were all shaken in the aftermath. He had two shiners at the end, and his dark eyes gave the impression that he had been through ten rounds with a heavyweight fighter. Fortunately, and above all, he is now recovering from a bit of shock. However, that experience served as a sobering reminder of how easily things may go wrong. At Pellon Tyres, we take safety very seriously, so we felt we had to act to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Acting to Ensure Safety-New Safety Investment

We started investigating new methods to make working on springs safer once the dust cleared and our mechanic’s eyes started to heal. We’ve made an investment in a premium spring compression cage after doing some research and weighing our options. There is no chance for the spring to escape and cause damage because this piece of equipment is made to fully enclose it during the compression process. A simple concept that truly saved lives.

Making sure our crew returns home safely at the end of each day is more important than merely guarding against the occasional black eye. Our top priority has been and will continue to be that. Purchasing new equipment is undoubtedly an investment, but when it comes to our employees’ safety and wellbeing, no expense is too high. Pellon Tyres takes pride in caring for its own members of Halifax’s close-knit community.

The Significance of It-New Safety Investment

Since 1989 we have been a part of the Halifax community, and we have always tried our hardest to assist our team, our clients, and the community. Purchasing a new compression cage is a commitment that we will continue to step up when necessary, not just a business choice.

Please know that we take every safety precaution (thanks to Sykes Pickavant) when working on your car if you happen to drop by our garage. You can rely on us to provide work of the highest calibre thanks to the expertise of our staff and the new safety precautions. Our employees will work in a safer environment, and I will have one less concern at the end of the day.

Going Ahead-New Safety Investment

We now proceed with greater strength and safety than before as our mechanic recovers from shock. I’m happy to have this new cage in our garage; it’s a terrific investment for Pellon Tyres. It serves as a reminder that we have each other’s backs and eyes protected in our line of business.

Halifax, be careful. And don’t forget that we’re here to help you work safer and more intelligently if you ever need tyres, MOTs, or just some sound advice.

Ford Focus Clutch: Diesel TDi 2004

Ford Focus Clutch

Ford Focus Clutch

So, over recent years, I seem to have had a run of cars with clutch problems. Consequently, that has been brought into my garage, Pellon-Autocentre, here in Halifax, UK. I think that most garages will have these kinds of cars with different problems. Sometimes it may be brake problems or sometimes we have a run of exhaust pipes dropping off. This particular time, there have been clutch problems.

Yesterday was no exception? Sure enough, first thing in the morning, an AA transporter turned up on the forecourt. So, with a silver car strapped to the back,. Fortunately, an old customer of ours was in the car. When his Focus was unloaded. He came into the reception to explain what had happened.

He told us that he had recently been working away in the south of England. While he was away, he started to have problems with his clutch. He told us that one morning he was driving to work from his accommodation and called in for some diesel. When he arrived back at the car, the biting point of the clutch was very close to the car floor. Also, the rest of the pedal was very sloppy and loose.

He managed to drive the car to his job, Ford Focus Clutch

Subsequently, he is a builder for a housing association. Who own properties all over the UK, The head office is here in Halifax .He sometimes has to work away to help sort problems out. Although he was having great difficulty selecting his gears. When he first bought the  Focus about 18 months earlier, he was told that the car had recently been fitted with a new clutch ! Of course, this was one of the reasons that he had bought the car. Visibly, it appeared to be in good condition.

He called out a local garage that topped up the slave cylinder. I was also telling him that the clutch pedals on these Fords have a black plastic hinge-type thing attached to it. Importantly, this is what pushes the master cylinder in. A metal rod attaches this hinge to the pedal. A clip is what holds the hinge in place, and this clip is detachable. So causing the cars clutch problem. The garage resolved this, and for a few days, everything appeared to be fine with the Focus.

Ford Focus driver could smell clutch fluid? Ford Focus Clutch

He noticed a slight smell coming from the car’s cab, but he did not know what it was. It was apparently clutch fluid that had leaked from his previous problem. The guy told us that after the

garage reportedly had sorted the Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi problem out, but the car gear change was still a bit lumpy. After the job was complete, the guy decided to risk it and drive the car back home to the north via the M1.

He decided to call in at the services for something to eat and a rest. On his return to the car, he found that once again the clutch pedal was down to the floor pan of the car, but unlike before, there was no bite at all on the clutch. His company had provided their staff with AA breakdown cover for their employees who travelled away to work, and so the guy promptly called the AA out to the services.

Inspected by the AA

The AA man inspected the cars clutch cylinder to check the level but soon noticed that the cylinder was empty of fluid. He said that the Ford  was susceptible to these type of  problems and diagnosed a broken master cylinder. There was nothing that he could do as far as road side assistance, and so he proceeded to load the car onto the back of his transporter in order to take the car to the garage of his choice, which was our garage in Halifax.

When I proceeded to put the car on lift, I found that clutch fluid was seeping out at the bottom of the clutch housing through one of the vent holes that are there to collect dust and dirt to evacuate the housing. We diagnosed the problem as a master cylinder failure and reported back to the customer, who by this time had borrowed one of our courtesy cars and gone back to work somewhere here in Yorkshire.

We removed the Ford Focus gearbox and clutch housing to reveal yet more problems?

The engine was dropped, as was the gearbox. Removed, and then the Ford Focus clutch housing was separated. Revealing the clutch assembly. We found that the hydraulic cylinder bearing had, in fact, a broken seal and needed replacing. Then we found that although the Focus diesel should have been fitted with a duel mass flywheel,. Subsequently, this car had been converted to a solid single flywheel.

Including a normal-type clutch plate and to make matters worse! Incidentally, both were damaged. The flywheel was broken, and the clutch plate was worn out and also needed replacing.

We phoned the customer on his mobile! Of course, he was not very pleased, to say the least. Having expected the clutch to last him more than the 18 months that it had lasted since he bought the car. The old parts were saved for the customer to look at as we always do. Another small problem also occurred? We had some difficulty matching a new single clutch plate with a new solid flywheel, as the old one was a cheap clutch plate and had no part numbers on to match a new one.

With the help of the motor factors, we were able to find the correct parts and rebuild the whole assembly. The car works fine now, and the customer went away highly delighted after his initial shock.

The diesel Ford Focus can be converted to a solid single-clutch system, Ford Focus Clutch

When the customer had left, I looked at some Ford forums about the conversion to a single clutch assembly, and the general consensus is that it is fine to do it. In fact, Ford Transits can be converted by using genuine Ford parts. That is made especially for these conversions. Also, I have heard that many taxi companies convert their taxis to the single clutch system.

Citroën C3 08 Plate:

Replacing the faulty alternator fixes starting issues

A Citroën C3 with an 08 plate model recently arrived at Pellon Autocenter with a typical yet annoying issue: it wouldn’t start. Indicating possible electrical system problems, the customer reported sporadic starting problems and a caution light that flashed on and off. We are aware of how annoying auto issues may be, particularly when you’re rushing to go to work, school, or the stores in Halifax’s busy streets. We therefore wanted to identify the problem as soon as possible.

Electrical System Testing-Citroen C3 For Starting Problem

We often start by testing the battery and charging system when a car has starting problems. After all, in situations like this, a poor battery is frequently the main suspect. However, the battery received a clean bill of health following a comprehensive examination and the use of our trustworthy diagnostic equipment.

The connectors were strong, and it had a good charge capacity. However, we did observe an oddity with the alternator. Electrical faults and battery drain are only two of the many issues that might result from a failed alternator. Our testing verified that the alternator needed to be replaced because it was not providing a steady voltage.

Changing the Defective Alternator

We notified the customer and started working as soon as we were certain of the diagnosis. A few parts must be removed in order to replace the alternator on the Citroën C3, however, our skilled team’s work allowed the job to be finished quickly. We performed further testing to make sure everything was functioning as it should after installing the new alternator and re-connecting the system. The job is done—no more flickering lights or trouble starting!

An Overview of the Citroën C3’s Past-Citroen C3 For Starting Problem

Since its debut in 2002, the Citroen C3 has been a well-liked option in the UK. With its unique French flair, this small hatchback has long been known for being a comfortable city car. Citroën had enhanced the C3 by the time our 08 plate customer’s model was launched, giving it a sleeker appearance and better handling while keeping its iconic “bubble” design.

Although the second generation (2009 onwards) brought about a lot of modifications, the smooth ride and spacious interior of the earlier model we worked on were already winning people over. Citroën has long been a leader in providing useful vehicles with a dash of eccentricity, something that is uncommon among the more conventional versions found on British roads.

Halifax and Beyond: The Local Connection

Seeing vehicles like the Citroën C3 drive through Halifax and West Yorkshire’s picturesque roads is always satisfying. Having a dependable vehicle is essential, whether you’re driving across Hebden Bridge or up the treacherous Yorkshire moors. The local weather also has a negative impact on electrical components and automotive batteries. Our C3 customer found that rainy circumstances and cold mornings can quickly reveal flaws in a car’s charging system.

For many years, Pellon Autocentre has been providing services to the neighbourhood. Every car has a unique tale to tell, and our motivation is to get our clients back on the road safely. Therefore, keep in mind that it might not be the battery alone if you ever discover your Citroën, or any other car, having trouble starting. To keep Halifax running smoothly, we’re here to assist in identifying and resolving issues!

Conclusion-Citroen C3 For Starting Problem

With its new alternator guaranteeing a consistent charge and dependable starts for the foreseeable future, this 08-plate Citroën C3 is now operational again. It serves as a reminder of how important the alternator is to a car’s operation, frequently operating in the background without much notice until something goes wrong. Don’t be afraid to have your car looked out if it exhibits any symptoms of starting problems; doing so could save you a lot of trouble later.

Give us a call or stop by Pellon Autocentre for more details, guidance, or to schedule a service for your vehicle. We’re always prepared to keep you driving safely!

A Case Study at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre on the Fiat Panda Rear Knocking and Wandering Issue

Recently, a customer brought his Fiat Panda, a reliable 60 plate that has seen him through many Halifax streets, to Pellon Tyre and Autocentre. His worry? There was an unsettling feeling that the car was straying a little bit when driving, as well as a continuous hammering sound coming from the back. Even while the Fiat Panda is renowned for its dependability and usefulness, problems like these can seriously impair driving enjoyment and pose safety risks.

Addressing the Core of the Issue-Fiat Panda Corroded Rear Axle

To learn about the customer’s experience, we started with a test drive. Indeed, the knocking sound was audible, particularly on rough roads. The roving feeling while driving indicated that there might be stability problems with the car’s back suspension, confirming that there was more to be concerned about than just noise. As soon as we got the Panda on the lift, the issue became apparent: the rear axle was severely corroded and rotten.

Metal components can deteriorate over time due to exposure to moisture, road salt, and changing weather, particularly in the UK. The structural integrity of the rear axle in this Panda had deteriorated, which resulted in a knocking noise and decreased road stability.

Fiat Panda Corroded Rear Axle

Restoring the Weathered Rear Axle-Fiat Panda Corroded Rear Axle

For such a serious problem, replacing the back axle completely was the only appropriate course of action. We found a suitable replacement axle for the Fiat Panda, making sure it complied with the manufacturer’s requirements.

The rear suspension was fully functional again when the replacement axle was put in place, which stopped the knocking sound and brought stability back. In order to ensure that the Panda would go straight and true on Halifax’s frequently curving and mountainous roads, we completed the procedure by performing a full wheel alignment.

Knowing that his Panda was safe to drive once more—no more eerie noises or roving behavior—the client departed with peace of mind.

An Overview of the Fiat Panda’s Past

The Fiat Panda has received praise for its affordable price and straightforward, useful design ever since it was first introduced in 1980. Due to its longevity and effective use of space, the Panda swiftly gained popularity throughout Europe.

The third generation, which began production in 2003 and lasted until 2012, includes the 60 plate Panda that we worked on. This generation, which stood out for its sturdy construction and urban-friendly design, upheld the Panda’s reputation as a dependable and adaptable little car.

Age and the weather, however, can have an adverse effect on any car, especially on metal parts like the axle. This kind of corrosion-related problem isn’t completely unusual in Halifax because of the city’s occasionally severe weather and road conditions.

Whether negotiating Halifax’s winding streets or tackling the rolling landscape of the Calder Valley, the Fiat Panda is ideal for Yorkshire living. Drivers in this area appreciate it because of its small size and agile handling. However, a sturdy, rust-free rear axle and a well-maintained suspension system are necessary to maintain it at its peak, for both comfort and safety.

We at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre

We know how important it is to keep your vehicle safe when driving. Our proficiency in identifying and repairing even the most serious corrosion problems, such as this rotting rear axle, guarantees that your car will continue to be dependable and able to withstand any challenge Yorkshire presents. Please stop by if you hear knocking sounds or have any other concerns; our goal is to keep you and your vehicle on the road!

Customers Satisfaction Ratings

I must admit that in most of my years as a garage owner, customer satisfaction ratings were never known. Of course, up until the advent of modern computers, there were no such things as ratings for your customers. So it has become a thing of the future! And why not. Importantly, it is one of the best indicators that your business is doing well. Whatever type of product or service you are selling,.

Another happy positive is that when you have high ratings, it’s no coincidence that your business will thrive. Anyhow, that’s my experience! Consequences also set out other parameters that will give the thriving business the best results. In my opinion, the number one factor is having the right staff. Especially when in a garage situation.

Garage owners just dont get it ! Customers Satisfaction Ratings

Of course, the  garages of today have a lot to thank for the start of the “Kwik-Fit” era. Coming out of an American idea from the infamous Tommy Farmer, fast fits brought the garage industry into the 21st century. Incidentally, we do still have the dirty back street type of garages and scruffy second-hand tyre shops for all to see.

However, the garages that prosper will have all the right mixtures of ideas and cleanliness that modern driver s are looking for. This also reflects on the particular garage businesses ratings of customer satisfaction.

These days of consumerism mean that we all have to try harder

be more polite and generally “bend over backwards”. So to keep our ratings high,. Consumers are very savvy  and will freely give a business a good review. Strangely enough, there does not seem to be a middle-of-the-road review!

At least not with us at Pellon Autocentre. Most reviews are, in fact, 5 stars, which is excellent for us. However, we get the odd customer who will give us just a 1-star rating.

I must confess that I used to hate this. Although very rare then it is all part of system. We will never please everybody! Now I take the time to look into this. So, when we receive a low rating then I now investigate the poor result. Then first thing that hits me is that my excellent staff always know about the circumstances. I truly believe that there is a certain type of person who is never going to be happy.

Whatever and wherever they go, these people are trouble.

So, I know before I say anything that my staff know exactly what has happened. Believe me or not, it is always the customer that has caused the problem, leading to them giving us a 1-star rating. Importantly, we do make mistakes! After all, we are only humans.

But a good garage will handle any problem in the correct manner. Always change a possible bad situation into a good outcome. This includes all our garage services and products. Including tyres and associated services. and MOT testing.

Finally, we do have good reviews on Google and Facebook.

But in my opinion, our online tyre portal, www.pellontyres.co.uk is the most accurate and is not open to any low-scoring abuse from “keyboard warriors.”.

Subsequently, try to knock your reputation by giving a false low score. Below, I have published our excellent results and would like to thank our great customers. So, thank you for taking the time and energy to give us the results that all businesses dream about.

Forward to 2024 here at Pellon Tyres we are now members of Tyresafe.org to help promote safety.

Net Promoter Score Results

What does your NPS score mean?

Your NPS score tracks customers on how they represent your company to their family, friends and colleagues.

  • A negative score means you have more Detractors than Promoters and your organization is unlikely to grow.
  • A NPS score of above 0 is considered to be good.
  • A NPS score above 50 is considered to be exceptional. This also indicates that awareness of your organization will grow through word-of-mouth marketing.

The NPS score is calculated by subtracting the percentage of Detractors (those who scored your fitting centre as a 0-6) from Promoters (those that scored your fitting centre as 9-10). This generates your Net Promoter Score.

Many Thanks from me and all my excellent staff for their contribution to having great Customers Satisfaction Ratings.

Nissan Navara-Blocked EGR Valve

Nissan Navara-Blocked EGR Valve

So, we are now starting to increase our workpower after the drop in business due to the “Corona Virus” pandemic. Importantly, cars are now being driven after the long lockdown. Because vehicles of many shapes and technologies have been left unused, different problems are occurring. The other day was no exception, with various cars turning up. Including a Nissan Navara with engine running problems.

Mainly suffering from a reduction in power. Hence, the car was struggling to accelerate without much power. Immediately, we suspected a problem with the EGR valve. Importantly, EGR valves play a vital role in controlling your vehicle’s exhaust emissions. Introduced to aid vehicles that are controlled by strict emissions regulations in place. So, our laws governing this come from the European Union at the moment.

However, like most mechanical and electrical parts, they can eventually go wrong! Including this Nissan Navara. So here at Pellon-Autocentre, Halifax, we make sure that we have all the latest electronic diagnostic tools and associated equipment. Of course, all my regular customers know that we have a team of highly trained technicians. Categorically, enabling our staff to diagnose and treat any EGR valve problems.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve (EGR).

There is no doubt that the EGR valve is an important part,Nissan Navara-Blocked EGR Valve when it comes to the smooth flow and running operations of the modern car engine.  Failure of this valve can lead to a reduction in power, as in the Nisan presented to us. Other problems ensuing will include a reduction in fuel efficiency, the vehicle will start using more fuel. This problem is often picked up on the MOT emissions test. Causing the vehicle to fail the test due to emissions failure.

The EGR valves eventually get sooted up. Nissan Navara-Blocked EGR Valve

. Especially when the vehicle is only used locally. Of course, motorway driving increase the heat of the engine and therefore keeps the soot level down by burning the soot off.

So, this Nissan was found to have a very heavily sooted up EGR valve as seen in the image. After cleaning with a special fluid the EGR valve worked fine and the Nissan was back to normal running, including fuel efficiency.

The Value of Equipping Your Van with Heavy Duty Shock Absorbers

Hi there, fellow owners of vans! Driving in Halifax or traversing the meandering lanes of the Yorkshire countryside, you are aware of how unpredictable our roads can be in the UK. You could be driving on a smooth freeway one moment and have to avoid potholes the size of a small pond the next. Heavy duty shock absorbers, the unsung heroes of your van’s suspension system, come into play in this situation. Let’s examine the importance of these bad boys for your vehicle.

In any case, what are shock absorbers? Vans require Heavy Duty Shocks

Let’s first examine the true function of shock absorbers. To put it simply, they maintain the tyres on your van in contact with the road. Shock absorbers cushion the blow when your van hits a bump, pothole, or even a naughty speed bump, preventing your van from bouncing around like a pogo stick. This translates into increased safety, smoother rides, and better control.

What Makes Heavy Duty? Vans require Heavy Duty Shocks

So why would one choose high duty shock absorbers over ordinary ones? It’s likely that you’re transporting heavy things in your van for work, whether they be goods, equipment, or tools. Better stability and control are offered by heavy duty shocks, which are made to support the additional weight. Here’s why they are revolutionary:

  1. Enhanced Handling of Loads: The weight of your cargo is specifically supported by heavy duty shock absorbers. For lighter loads, standard shocks may be sufficient, but when transporting heavier items, you need something that can withstand the most pressure. Even with everything stacked inside, your van will stay steady thanks to heavy-duty shocks.
  2. Increased Sturdiness: Vehicles aren’t always treated well on our local roads. Because heavy duty shocks are designed to resist challenging circumstances, they last longer and cost less to replace. Consider them an investment in the future of your van.
  3. Enhanced Quality of Ride: Nobody like a rough ride. Heavy-duty shock absorbers smooth out your travels, which is great for your back and any fragile items you may be transporting. The ride quality has improved, whether you’re driving longer distances or just around town.
  4. Enhanced Security: It’s crucial to maintain control and stability, especially when operating a vehicle that is fully loaded. Heavy-duty shocks lessen the possibility of rolling or swaying, especially while turning sharp corners or travelling on rough terrain. You and other drivers will drive more safely as a result of this.

The Halifax Component-Vans require Heavy Duty Shocks

Let’s make it more accessible. We know that the roads in Halifax can be a little unpredictable. Driving can be a bit of an adventure because of the sudden potholes, small lanes, and steep hills and descents.

If you equip your van with heavy duty shock absorbers, you’ll be more equipped to handle any challenges that our local roads may present. You’ll also discover that negotiating the Calderdale terrain is more easier and more pleasant thanks to the increased stability and control.

Fitting Them: Do It Yourself or Hire a Pro?

You may be thinking if you really need a professional or if you can fit these yourself. Even if some of you do-it-yourselfers might feel capable of doing the work, I would suggest hiring an expert to complete it. A proper installation is essential to guaranteeing the shocks work as intended. Furthermore, who needs the hassle of a poorly executed do-it-yourself project?

Concluding Remarks about Vans require Heavy Duty Shocks

To put it briefly, heavy duty shock absorbers are an absolute must for any van owner who values longevity, comfort, and safety. Getting them will improve your van greatly whether you use it for travel or work, especially on our erratic British roads.

Ask about Vans require Heavy Duty Shocks the next time you’re in for maintenance or feel like the bumps are getting to you a little too much. Both your back and your van will appreciate it!

I’ll see you on the Halifax roads, and have a safe journey!

So, to be honest, this is nothing new to me. Monroe shock absorbers have an online lookup system that tells which shocks go onto which van. So I really dont know what the problem could be.

Perhaps the smaller parts chain are supplying spurious makes of shockers that are cheap and should only fit lighter vehicles. Hence, I am not really sure. Here at Pillon Autocentre in Halifax, we only use honest and reliable parts companies for our replacement parts, including new shockers!

Of course if they are cheap then the probably will be cheap and not suitable for the customers van. Like everything else in this world then you pay for what you get! Surprisingly, shock absorbers appear to last longer than they used to do back in the day. Better manufacturing techniques seam to have made them last longer and they are not much of an MOT Test failure any more.

The explosion of eCommerce and consumers’ increased demand for convenient delivery and on-site service is also seeing demand rise for the repair and maintenance of these vehicles, experts at Monroe say. As one example, shock

Garage Owners Beware

Garage Owners Beware

Garage Owners Beware

Garage Owners Beware
Garage Owners Beware

So, I suppose this lesson that I am about to teach you could be a lesson for all types of business, not just garages! This type of customer has always been a laughing point when the garage guys meet over a pint of beer!

Subsequently, we vey often get onto the customer who calls into the garage and says ” could you just fit a set of front brake pads, or could you just fit me a “head light bulb”. Yes these are just customers you have to avoid!

The sign in the car window that I have used as the image for this post.

Unquestionably, this says it all. Admitably, not all small jobs go wrong! However, your staff must be made of the customer who just pops in and they are tempted to fit the “small job” between customers that are already booked in.

So the number of times that these so-called “small jobs” have been fired would amaze you. Of course, the latest and most common one is “can you just fit a light bulb“. This is one that you need to watch out for! Some are relatively easy to fit. However, many are also a nightmare, requiring half the cars front end to be stripped down before the bulb can be fitted.

Another similar problem is the “can you fit my own brake pads “customer.

This is a temptation to a new garage owner. So a customer walks in with new set of usually cheap brake pads and asks you if you can just fit these! As tempting as it may be, we never fit customers own parts. Consequently, you will always find that its not just the pads that are gone. So, then you are in a dilemma. Probably one that you never needed. Garages and similar industries cant do “right for wrong”!

Garage Owners Beware
Garage Owners Beware
So we all know the other problems

associated with the simple job of just fitting a set of brake pads. Anything can go wrong, and believe me, it often will. My advice is to stay clear of these customers.

Established garages will know all their good customers and will generally be too busy to accommodate the “can you just” brigade. My advice is to stay clear of these people and politely say that you are fully booked and, in any case, do not fit customers own parts.

After all, as I say, the image says it all.

Subsequently, the first time that we saw this particular car was when it was in for an MOT test. Gloomily, the owner said that the car would probably fail the test. Because some of the lights were not working as they should! However, the owner’s disappointment came to an end when the car passed the test.

Surprisingly, contrary to what we thought, all the lights were indeed fine. In good working condition. The weather at the beginning of the year. Indeed, it was warm and sunny. The customer picked up his car ! and we heard nothing from the customer or his Peugeot 406 (with the suspected lights problem).

Peugeot turns back up with a central locking problem- Peugeot 406 Lights

So, we did not see the car again until later in the year. Turning up again with an unrelated problem. Hence, the central locking was not working as it should ?  We checked out all the likely things and found nothing to miss. When the car was in our hands, the central locking was working fine. Subsequently, we could not find any problems.

The customer collected his Peugeot 406 back home, and sure enough, he returned with yet another problem ! The car’s side lights were in a permanent position. In other words, they were switched off but remained on (if you get what I mean) .So,once again, we checked all the likely culprits. Including the fuses and switches, and everything was just fine. Significantly, the car was having a number of “lights and other electrical problems” at differing times (very strange). When investigating, we found this clip from another Peugeot owner with similar problems in the forum of the Peugeot 406 web-site…

Then, with the car locked, the brake lights came on. Then went off, then glowed dimly then stayed on. At this point I pulled the fuses for the brake lights and nothing at all happened. The lights stayed on. Disconnected the battery and then reconnected. Lights stayed off until I tried the brakes with the ignition on.
“I removed the BSI (with the battery disconnected) and (with battery back on) turned on the ignition to find all the lights still lit up.
Must be the dash board. Out with the dash on with the soldering iron.

Every pin and connection to the dials.
Put back in; no joy. Brake lights are on with or without the dash board.
removed the brake light switch. (What a swine that is to remove!)—lights still on!
I looked for all the earth points around the car. I got to the drivers foot well and I could hear a buzzing noise. Could it be a relay?”…

Of course, this was a problem that we had not come across before. Surprisingly, the whole thing came to a head when the car engine would not switch off ! To stop the engine from running, we had to stall the car’s engine. Amazingly, we just could not find a problem.

Had to call in an a Citroen/Peugeot expert ! Peugeot 406 Lights

As a last resort, I had to call for help and enlisted the help of a mechanic friend called Richard. Richard had heard about this problem before and went straight to the foot well of the driver’s side.

The weather was terrible for a couple of weeks prior to the cars problems occurring ! Torrential rain and wide-spread flooding were a national problem ! Because of all the heavy rain here in the UK, the footwell had become flooded. Consequently, when we lifted the carpet at the driver’s side, we found a wet, soggy mess.

Peugeot 406 wiring was rotten with the wet ?

Specifically, the Peugeot 406 lighting and engine problems were found . Subsequently, the plugs that connected the wiring together were perished and rotten. Of course, causing all the short-outs and strange electrical things to happen. Firstly, we drilled a hole to release the water . Secondly, we  re-wired the damaged wires together. So, it was very time-consuming, but  a good job was done. We still do not know where the water is getting in, but I have added some advice from the Honest John website…

“Dry the interior out; remove all mats. Stay inside the car while a friend gently sprays a hose, one section at a time, for several minutes. Wait a few minutes, then inspect. Make sure you train the water on the sunroof, side windows, light clusters, rear hatch, doors, and main windscreen; these are the common areas that could leak.
After a thorough dowsing, gently bounce rear and front of car to dislodge any water that may be sitting somewhere inside. Also, covering the dry car interior carpets with newspaper will show the presence of water and possibly the direction of the leak if you have a dark trim”…http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=48178

Water can cause many electrical problems in your car ? Peugeot 406 Lights

Thinking back the cars owner could relate the problems after we had had heavy rain fall. So, when the water leaked into the car then it shorted out some of the cars electrics . Of course if any water enters the car then much damage can occur. It even happened recently to a nearly new Ford transit delivery van that I bought from the local Ford dealer.

Apparently, unknown to me, the van had a new windscreen fitted before we bought the van. On a recent delivery to a customer in Lancashire, I experienced a very heavy period of rainfall. Surprisingly, the van came to a sudden stop ! Fortunately, I had just pulled off the M56 motorway. So, the engine was completely dead , refusing to start !

After a couple of hours of waiting, the RAC guy turned up and recommended that I be towed to our base in Halifax, UK. To our horror we found that the windscreen had been incorrectly fitted and water had entered the cab onto the ECU (Vans computer). So, after the shock and a couple of thousand pounds lighter, the van is now back on its delivery runs !

All caused by water entering the van’s cab ?

A Growth Journey: The Story of Halifax’s Pellon Tyre and Autocentre

Eric started a quest in 1989 that would eventually make him a pillar of the Halifax garage scene. The first part of what would eventually become the entire Pellon Tyre and Autocentre was purchased. A man who owned the buildings at the time had to retire soon after due to poor health. This unanticipated chance created the groundwork for a flourishing and well-respected neighbourhood company that has been providing automotive services to Halifax residents for more than 30 years.

In the Beginning: A Little Company with Big Plans

Pellon Autocentre was initially just a little business. The company’s founder, Eric, had a clear vision: to give each and every client that walked through the doors honest, dependable, and knowledgeable service. Long hours, arduous work, and a steadfast commitment to doing the job right were hallmarks of the early days—dedications that would later become associated with the Pellon brand.

The company’s reputation expanded along with its growth. As word got out about Eric and his staff, more and more people in Halifax started to entrust them with their automobiles, whether they needed major mechanical work done or just a new set of tyres. Eric is incredibly appreciative of the Halifax public’s support, which made it possible for the business to grow.

“Pellon Autocentre has become what it is today because of the loyalty and trust of the people of Halifax,” Eric remarked, looking back on these early years. We wouldn’t be here without their help, for which I will always be grateful.

The Development and Growth of Pellon Autocentre

The requirement for additional room increased along with demand. Over the years, Eric gradually acquired the remaining buildings that make up the entire Pellon Autocentre depot. This made it possible for the company to grow and provide a greater range of services to its clientele. The once-tiny section of a building has grown into a fully functional service station, equipped to handle anything from major mechanical repairs and tyre fitting to MOTs and servicing.

The Pellon family expanded as a result of the expansion, and many of these new members are now essential to the center’s success. Eric has always put a high priority on his employees since he understands that their expertise, commitment, and enthusiasm are what keep the company operating efficiently.

Important Persons in Pellon’s Success

Ryan Linton has been a tremendous resource for the company. He works alongside his nephew Dale Linton at Pellon Autocentre, where his technical proficiency and commitment have made him an important role. The Linton family’ combined efforts have played a significant role in upholding Pellon’s reputation for providing excellent customer service. Beyond merely being a technician, Ryan contributes significantly to the team’s daily operations and makes sure that excellence is always the team’s goal.

Not to be outdone, Dale Linton has added his own special talents (MOT tester) and expertise to the company. Because of their professionalism, the two are well-liked by both clients and coworkers, and they keep advancing Pellon Autocenter’s expansion and innovation.

Another important team member who has consistently been at the centre is Debbie Bastow. Her contribution has been crucial to the efficient operation, even though it has been largely behind the scenes. Because of her exceptional organisational skills and thorough knowledge of the industry, Debbie makes sure that everything runs well. Her presence at Pellon Autocentre is greatly appreciated, and her contribution is highly esteemed.

Even if many of the current employees are still crucial to Pellon’s success, it’s important to acknowledge the achievements of the people who are no longer with us. The late Mrs. Michelle Roberts was crucial to the establishment and expansion of the company. Well-known for her steadfast dedication and upbeat demeanour, Michelle was a valued member of the Pellon family rather than just a coworker. Her passing had a significant impact on everyone at the center, but the company’s principles and practices still bear her legacy.

Serving the Halifax Community for More Than 30 Years

Pellon Tyre and Autocentre has established a solid reputation as a locally owned company in addition to providing high-quality services over the years. Halifax is home to Erics Business, his staff, and a plethora of devoted clients in addition to being the location of the company. This sense of community belonging has always been the driving force behind Pellon’s actions.

Pellon’s crew goes above and beyond to guarantee client pleasure, whether it’s assisting a customer with an urgent repair or offering advice on the best winter tyres for the erratic Yorkshire weather. Eric takes great pride in the relationships the company has developed over the years, frequently servicing the same families for generations as they come back time and time again.

Looking Towards the Future-Heartfelt Thanks to the People of Halifax

Eric is enthusiastic about what lies ahead for Pellon Autocentre. The business must adapt to the ever-changing automobile sector. The key to ensure Pellon Autocenterre survives and grows in the years to come will be to extend service options, stay current on training, and invest in new technology.

Eco-friendly activities have received attention, especially with regard to using ecologically friendly items and disposing of tires. Eric and his group are dedicated to contributing to environmental protection and recognise the significance of sustainability.

Meanwhile, Eric is committed to upholding the fundamental principles of honesty, integrity, and first-rate customer service that have helped Pellon Autocentre become what it is today. The company has operated by these guiding principles for almost 30 years, and it will do so going forward.

A Sincere Gratitude to the Halifax Community-Heartfelt Thanks to the People of Halifax

Eric would like to thank the people of Halifax once more for their unwavering support as Pellon Tyre and Autocentre celebrates more than thirty years in business. Eric says, “We’ve come a long way since 1989, but the hard work of our dedicated team and the loyalty of our customers wouldn’t have allowed us to do it.” We are honoured to be a member of the Halifax community and anticipate continuing to be of service to you for a very long time.

For Eric and the staff, Pellon Autocenter is a family that embraces each and every client who enters the building rather than just a place of business. Additionally, the future appears more promising than ever as long as Halifax residents keep putting their faith in Pellon.
