Car Winter Preparation

Of course, I write about this subject on a regular basis! Especially as winter approaches. Although winters have been very mild in recent times,! Then I can still remind drivers that it was not too long ago that we indeed had some bad snowfall.

Including the so-called “Beast from the East” phenomenon. As a result, the cold air blast coming out of Russia surprised many millions of drivers. Vehicle drivers were, in fact, caught up with all sorts of easily rectified problems.

Of course, we may discuss the necessary steps a Halifax automobile owner can take to safeguard their cherished vehicle in the lead-up to winter.

Halifax Drivers, Get Your Vehicle Winter Ready Now! Car Winter Preparation

Winter preparations for your vehicle are more than just a chore—they’re an absolute must in Halifax, where the weather can be merciless. In preparation for winter, here are some suggestions from locals on how to keep your ride safe and dependable when the snow starts to fall.

  1. Seasonal tyres:

Based on what we know about the area, the winters in Halifax may be rather snowy and slippery. Putting on winter tyres instead of your usual ones is an absolute must. Skidding and accidents are less likely to occur on roads coated in snow and ice, thanks to these specialised treads. Make sure to periodically check your tyres’ pressure because cold weather can affect it.

Part 2: Antifreeze and Coolant: Car Winter Preparation

Your engine might take a serious beating in Halifax’s frigid winters. Always use the recommended ratio of antifreeze to water when filling up your vehicle’s cooling system. Doing so will keep the engine coolant from freezing and harming it.

  1. Verify the Battery:

Your car’s battery may experience increased strain in colder conditions. Get your battery checked up before winter arrives to be sure it’s in good shape. You can avoid being left out in the cold if you replace a weak battery before it fails.

Kit for Surviving the Winter: Car Winter Preparation

A winter survival pack should be kept in your vehicle in case you become trapped in a snowdrift. Things to bring are a small shovel, non-perishable snacks, a blanket, and a torch. The weather in Halifax is notoriously unpredictable, so it’s wise to pack accordingly.

  1. Fluids and Oils:

Engine oil and other fluids can thicken in cold temperatures, reducing your car’s efficiency. For use in colder climates, you might want to think about reducing the oil’s viscosity. Also, to avoid freezing, use a winter-specific washer fluid recipe.

  1. Inspect the wipers and Lights:

Winter driving, with its shorter days, makes visibility all the more important. Check that your turn signals, taillights, and headlights are all functioning properly. Since they are subjected to heavy use in maintaining a clear windscreen, replace old wiper blades.

  1. Anti-Rust Formulation:

Winter road salting is common in Halifax due to the city’s maritime position. The undercarriage of your vehicle may rust more quickly if exposed to this salt. Protect your car from rust and corrosion by using an undercoat or rust prevention.

Identifying People to Call in an Emergency: Car Winter Preparation

Remember to have the numbers of local emergency services and towing companies on hand as a last point. Being prepared for winter weather by knowing who to contact in an emergency is crucial.

If you follow these instructions, you should be able to drive through Halifax winters without any problems. Even when winter slams on the brakes, you may drive with confidence on the picturesque streets of our town because your automobile will not only survive but thrive in the snow.

Screen bottles frozen?

So, apart from drivers being caught out trying to drive through snow with summer tyres fitted,. Another main problem was cars with frozen windscreen washer  bottles and their associated plastic pipes. To prevent this, all that was needed was to fill the washer bottles with the correct strength of washer solution? I must confess that our total commitment to advising drivers about fitting winter tyres is starting to pay off.

November is the start for many of our customers to fit winter tyres on their vehicles.

Drivers are now aware of the vast safety features that winter tyres offer. Our advice is that all winter tyres are better than driving on summer tyres. Significantly, in winter driving conditions,. However, we do recommend that you consider looking at the award-winning Falken Winter Tyre range.

In recent times, we have also recommended the fitting of all-weather tyres for all-year-round safer driving. Much more winter car protection advice is given in the attached article from the Metro Newspaper.

IF YOUR car has any developing faults, winter is the time when they’ll be exposed. Snow and ice generates cold and damp, which can be very bad news for cars. Road salt and grime can also cause problems, and can quicken the appearance of rust if left unchecked for long periods of time. Fortunately, there… View Article

Car Servicing Advice 2

An answer to the popular question “do I have to service my new car at the dealership?” straight from the horses mouth, Guelph Hyundai’s very own Service Adviser.

Car Servicing Advice 2: If you require  car servicing or car repairs,. The answer is NO?

“If you are a garage  with a good reputation, then the answer is to keep a warranty valid. So, the customer must perform all of the maintenance that is required. Of course, as specified in the owner’s manual, to maintain the vehicle’s warranty”

This applies in the USA and also here in the European Union. Including here in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK.

We are all covered by a right to repair law. Allowing us to repair cars that are still under warranty. Thus, as long as the service parts fitted are up to the same standard,. Hence, the ones fitted as original equipment by the car manufacturers.

This also applies to any new equipment that the car makers may bring out. Of course, they must release the patents for the aftercare garages . Or be able to repair and service the cars.

This prevents a closed-shop scenario from being created. Consequently, the new cars are going to the main dealers only.

Toyota is having to release many patents to do with EV cars. So that your regular garage can have a chance of repairing them.

https://www.pellonautocentre.com/do-you-have-to-have-your-car-servicing-done-by-the-main-dealer/

Car servicing your new car Do you have to use the main dealer?

The straight-forward answer to this is no! You do not have to take your car back to the franchise car dealer from where you bought it. The problem that we get at my garage here in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK, is that many of the public think that you have to return to the garage from where you purchased the vehicle  to have a car service.

The franchise dealer will not, of course, tell you this when you buy the car because they obviously want your business. But in many cases, this could be inconvenient for the new car owner. We have many very satisfied customers who do not want to take their cars anywhere else, for repairs or for car servicing.

There are a few rules that you should follow. Car Servicing Advice 2

If you do go to your independent garage, they must adhere to a few rules. These rules were set out by the EU when the right to repair ruling first came out, and I think that this is something similar in the USA, with their “right to repair bill.”.

Firstly, they would like the garage to be of good standing and probably affiliated to a trade organisation that gives the garage some credibility. Another way to check if your local garage has good standing is if they are an MOT testing station, here in the UK.

These accreditation’s will ensure that your car will have car servicing and repairs carried out to the right standards.

Another consideration to take into account is that you should check to see if your local garage uses car service parts that are as good as the manufacturer’s original equipment standards. Most quality garages will do this as a second nature and use either OE parts (oil filters, etc.) We use a top-quality brand called “Blue Print,” which is guaranteed to be just as good as the OE parts supplied by the main dealer garage.

If you stick to the rules and make sure that the car servicing booklet that is provided in every car is kept up-to-date, then you will have no problems if you have any warranty issues. By the way, if you do have a warranty problem, then you should return the car to the franchise dealer from where it came.

Pirelli’s Top Investor Camfin Said to Discuss Sale to Chem-China
Bloomberg
The talks come as larger competitors Michelin & Cie. and Continental AG seek to expand with acquisitions, particularly in Asia.

This is not as surprising as I first thought. China will be looking to buy existing western global companies to increase their product knowledge and their global portfolio.

This offer for a large part of Pirelli tyres does not come as a surprise in the chase for global dominance,

Including the tyre market. We have already seen the Apollo and Indian tyre companies lust for expansion, and the Chinese will also be active in the takeover battle for some of our leading European tyre companies.

http://www.pellontyres.co.uk/Tyre/Brand/1293/PIRELLI

It comes as no surprise to me that Pirelli tyres have now come into the hands of the Chinese state-owned company, Chem-China.

Like all the other leading tyre companies. So,  Pirelli has developed tyre technology for over a hundred years.  Of course, it will bring the fifth-largest tyre company in the world under the Chinese fold.

The Pirelli shareholders agreed to the 7.5 billion Euro bid. Importantly, shareholders approved it last Sunday.

There is no doubt that the Chinese have bought a giant Italian tyre company for a few reasons. One because of the Euro, and they will also have access to Pirelli tyre technology  for making premium tyres and also motorsport technology for future research and development.

A realm where tyre technology intersects with road conditions, Pirelli Tyres Top Investor

where even the most minute alteration can yield significant consequences. In the subsequent discourse, we shall delve into the historical trajectory of Pirelli, the renowned tyre behemoth, and the transformations that have transpired since ChemChina obtained a 26% ownership interest in the organisation.

Pirelli tyres have consistently occupied a revered position among motorists in Halifax, a city that values exceptional artistry. Many people prefer Pirelli tires because of their precision and effectiveness. Yet, in light of ChemChina’s acquisition, one cannot help but speculate whether any changes have occurred.

Let us begin by clarifying the circumstances. In 2015, Chem China completed the acquisition of a 26% stake in Pirelli. It was, in fact, a momentous advancement within the tyre industry. It is crucial to observe, nevertheless, that Pirelli remained an Italian firm with a long history and expertise in tyre manufacturing.

To return to the original inquiry-Pirelli Tyres Top Investor

Has ChemChina’s involvement precipitated any discernible alterations in Pirelli tyres? In my informal, cordial manner, I would say not exactly. Pirelli has maintained its quality- and performance-oriented reputation. From dependable all-season options to high-performance sports tyres, they continue to manufacture an extensive selection of tyres.

Although Chem China’s participation did result in certain modifications to Pirelli’s ownership framework, it failed to modify the fundamental principles that have positioned the company as a reputable entity within the tyre sector. The tyre-making expertise and Italian heritage continue to endure.

Pirelli has, in fact, maintained a commitment to innovation

and adaptation in response to the automotive industry’s shifting demands. New technologies and materials have been implemented in an effort to enhance the performance, safety, and sustainability of tyres. This dedication to excellence has remained unchanged despite the transfer of ownership.

Therefore, if you are a fan of Pirelli tyres and curious as to whether or not anything has altered, you can rest assured that the company’s essence has not changed. They continue to produce premium tyres that ensure your travels remain secure and pleasurable, regardless of whether you are traversing the historic thoroughfares of Halifax or venturing onto the open road.

Ultimately, the renowned Pirelli tyres maintain their exceptional quality and performance, guaranteeing a continued driving experience of unparalleled quality.

Chem-China has already developed a tyre making facility.

Known as the China National Tyre and Rubber Company, which will go into a joint venture and bid to buy the 26.2% stake in Pirelli from the Italian holding firm Camfin, a bid for the rest of the tyre company will follow.

Pirelli boss Tronchetti Provera is one of the Camfin investors, and he is expected to remain as chief executive. This type of takeover has been part of my working life in the tyre industry.

Of course, the difference is – Pirelli Tyres Top Investor

that it is now China and not the USA that are buying the assets of European tyre makers. Goodyear Tyres was always buying out smaller niche tyre manufacturers to add to their portfolio.

In more recent years. Apollo tyres from India have been a dominating force. So, in trying to increase the size of their tyre business by making takeover bids,. Consequently, such as their recent acquisition of Vredestein tyres. Of course, with a manufacturing base in Holland.

There were even reports coming out of Italy.

A counterbid may even be coming from one of the other big European tyre companies. Subsequently, either Continental tyres of the French tyre maker Michelin.

It will now be a case of “watch this space “to see how the Chinese takeover will improve Pirelli’s standing in the global tyre market, but there is one thing sure, and that’s that the Chinese sure aren’t short of money and could be looking for a large tyre retailer to distribute the Pirelli product more aggressively? Or, perhaps, a large wholesaler?

Wheel Balancing is Important

Wheel balancing is important because it keeps your tyres, bearings, and suspension system in order.

Source: affordableautohopkins.com

This is a short but to-the-point article about the importance of having your wheels balanced. So, it is something that we in the tyre trade keep harping on about, but never the less, it is important. Most of us have witnessed our wheels out of balance and having wheel wobble problems. Mainly when the steering wheel starts shaking while driving down the motorway .

https://www.pellonautocentre.com/centrelesswheels.htm

Wheel Balancing  will give you a better ride- Wheel Balancing is Important

Balancing is one of the things in motoring terms that we take for granted. When I first started working in the tyre industry, we had a small piece of equipment. That we would use to balance the wheels whenever we fitted a new tyre.

This was known as a bubble-balancer, and that is exactly what it was. You would sit with a wheel on top of the balancer and a bubble. Similar to the ones in a spirit level. This would tell you when the wheel was out of balance by the tilt on the wheel and we had to counteract this at the opposite side by adding lead weights.

When the wheel was level and the bubble was dead central, the job was done, and the wheel was fitted onto the car. The cars in those days were things like Ford Poplars and Morris 1000’s and so did not travel very far or go very fast.

Sit on Balancer was our first electric balancer.

There are different types of out of balance, “static balance”; vertical shaking that can come from a heavy spot on the tyre. This is what we would try to cure on our bubble balancer. This could also be cured on the next machine that came into use.

The machine was a sit on machine known as a On Car Wheel Balancing machine made by “Repco” and we would jack up the car put machine against the car wheel and we would then spin the electrically driven machine up to high speed. While the wheel was spinning a strobe light would make look like the wheel was in a still position we would then stop the machine with a type of brake and put a counter balance weight on the wheel depending where the tyres valve could be seen.

Wheel Balancing is Important
This method of  balancing was horrific. Wheel Balancing is Important

The older guys in the industry. Will remember the fact that the wheels would shake violently. Then the vibrations would shake the cars to bits. Of course, whilst the poor customer looked on with terror in his eyes. This reminds of the “roller brake tester” used on the modern MOT test. When the car gets shaken to bits, having a brake test.

This method of balancing was not for the faint hearted and I was glad to see the back of them.

The next set of wheel balancers were the fore runners to today’s sophisticated machines. We would put the wheel on a spindle and spin it by hand. These balancers would correct “static”

and “dynamic” out of balancing. The modern wheel balancer is equipped with many sensors and can pick up balancing problems at high and low speeds. These are necessary for today’s high speed cars and of course give the car drivers a smooth ride, (that’s if your wheels are balanced of  course).

On a regular basis in my opinion is at least once a month. Most members of one of the independent tyre organizations, and so will check your wheel alignment and wheel balancing for free and will only charge you if the car is out of alignment and requires adjusting.

Wheel Balancing is part of having a new tyre fitted

Of course, today Wheel Balancing is Important and we balance your wheels as a matter of fact when you buy new tyres or have a puncture repaired. So, if you need a wheel balance just as a matter of fact and your steering wheel starts to shake at say 50 mph, then this is because you may have lost a balance weight or your tyre has become out of shape, due to perhaps a “slipped belt”, which can be caused by nail or screw damaging the steel belt in your tyre, putting the tyre out of shape and causing the wheel to be out of balance.

Finally another thing that can give you a similar experience is if your wheel bearing has gone. Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre offer car and van servicing and repairs to all makes of vehicles.

Yorkshire may be a lovely location to drive, but nothing makes a car owner groan more than when the time for their yearly MOT arrives. The MOT (Ministry of Transport car test inspection) is a required exam to make sure that vehicles are safe for you and other drivers, but it is frequently a stressful activity that can severely deplete your financial resources.

Fortunately, there are drivers who take the MOT test very seriously

Of course, and save up to make the necessary repairs should the vehicle need some. In fact, I can truthfully say that many of our MOT customers are happy to have their cars tested to ensure their safety.

The new compound, combined with a newly developed macroblock shoulder design, gives the new tyre superb handling when cornering at speed.

Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle unveiled

Toyota Mirai

The Toyota Mirai is an electric-drive, mid-size four-door sedan powered by hydrogen, with a range of up to 300 miles, refuel time of about f…

This is just another part of the big mix of fuels that will power the cars of the near future.

Hydrogen cells are also the favourite of some car manufacturers. Including Toyota now with the Toyota Mirai and BMW. In my opinion, Hydrogen will be available at many filling stations in the future.

Toyota Mirai is one of the leaders in Hydrogen cell fueled cars

It has come to my attention that there are at least three leading car manufacturers that are heading down the hydrogen fuel road with their cars. I am a keen follower of market trends and the direction that the green way forward is heading, and that includes the battle that is rising between EV vehicles, battery Tec technology, the Hydrogen cell technology.

Apart from Toyota with the Toyota Mirai  the other two players are Hyundai and Honda. Other car makers have also been involved with Hydrogen including the American giant GM. Apparently GM has been running a test fleet of them for a few years now, but it is the Far Eastern country’s car makers that are ahead of the field.

There are enemies of hydrogen as well as battery driven cars

But when the largest car company in the world looks interested in something, then it is time to sit up and take note. Toyota is a very experienced and successful manufacturer of cars and has made over 5,600 fuel cell-related patents available. Toyota has started off the motion for hydrogen-powered cars to make it to market at a faster pace.

The inclusion of the auto industry is of particular import to Japan.

Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are key contributors to Japan’s economy, and the industry together accounts for 10% of the national workforce and 20% of exports. To me it is a good thing that Japan is thinking about supporting the home industry, and developing these new products will bring stability to the home workforce.

It does have to make these technologies available to us all eventually to comply with European and American laws, but I think that the Japanese are thinking about this when they free off the patents for the new technology cars.

The scrap between battery power and hydrogen is on.

Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. So, for instance, electric cars only require plug-in stations. Of course, to be re-charged. Significantly, the hydrogen cars will require a network of filling station locations. However, this will mean that they could just be added to the existing gas stations all over the world.

Both cars can claim to have zero emissions.

But the lithium-ion cars are re-charged by “dirty” coal-fired power stations. So are not as green as people think. Especially in countries like China! So, the hydrogen car only emits water, so until the power supplies are greener, the hydrogen car wins there.

At the time of writing this post. Both cars are getting about the same mileage! Subsequently, both types of cars are still very expensive to buy. Hydrogen cars can be re-fueled the same as a gas engine. While the battery car has to be charged up over a long period. Although scientists are working on a faster-charged battery all the time,.

Only time will tell which idea brings the most success, but you have to admit that it is interesting times that us auto guys live in.

Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC: 2024 Update

Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC
Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

I will attempt to bring this up to date as best I can

Chelsea AFC’s connection with Yokohama Tyres ended as of my last information update in January 2022. The partnership lasted several years; however, Yokohama Tyres had decided not to renew their sponsorship contract with the team by that point.

Now, in your typical nice and casual way, let’s dive into this topic, with some local tyre dealer emphasis:

It’s always intriguing to observe how football clubs and their sponsors work together, and occasionally how they don’t. In the case of Chelsea AFC and Yokohama Tyres, it’s a story about a partnership that had its time in the spotlight but eventually came to an end.

Chelsea Football Club and Yokohama Tyres were a formidable duo for many years. The Blues proudly donned the Yokohama badge on their shirts, which football fans all over the world recognised. It was almost like a love affair between football and tyres!

This union, like many excellent things in life, had its time. Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

By 2022, the collaboration had run its course, and the Yokohama logo said goodbye to Chelsea’s shirts. In some ways, it was the end of an era.

Let’s talk about the neighbourhood tyre shops now, shall we? Because Chelsea is such a well-known team, the sponsorship contract did put Yokohama Tyres on the map in the United Kingdom, and it had an influence. But, you know, it’s also important to remember our local tyre retailers right here in the United Kingdom.

I’m sure you have some wonderful tyre dealers in Halifax, including the famous ones, such as Pellon Tyres, who have been servicing the community for years. They may lack the sparkle and glamour of a football sponsorship, but they play an important part in keeping our wheels going.

So, while the Chelsea-Yokohama romance may have ended, let us not forget to support our local tyre retailers. They are the ones that keep our cars safe and our trips smooth in our neck of the woods.

The strange thing is that I have just finished a blog.

About the involvement of tyre companies with professional football clubs. Including the leagues across the world! Especially in Europe. Significantly, Yokohama and Chelsea Football Club have signed a sponsorship agreement. Importantly, that will enable the display and wear of the tyre company logo.

On the official football shirt. Yokohama Tyres UK branding is at the stadium and on the pitch side. Using the logo, players and coach of Chelsea FC to promote various tire-related advertising and

In my opinion, Yokohama Japan is already heavily involved in sport through their supply of tyres for the motorsport industry. The football scene is what all the tyre companies are competing for, and now the Japanese tyre company has joined the club, big style. This will undoubtedly raise brand awareness for Yokohama, simply because Chelsea and Manchester United are worldwide brands, and the  tyre products will be seen on televisions all over the globe, including faraway countries such as Australia and even China.

The agreement ends in 2020-Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

The agreement that has been signed will be for 5 years from this year (2015) and will put them up there with the big-tyre players. Incidentally, I have noticed that the big tyre companies, such as Goodyear and Michelin, have stayed clear of such large sponsorship deals (except, of course, Continental Tyres, who were one of the World Cup sponsors), with the battle being between the main mid-range tyre brands, such as Apollo Tyre and Hankook, and including Yokohama.

Chelsea FC is a prestigious football club situated in London and is currently in the top place of the English Premier League under the management of Jose Mourinho, a guy who speaks his mind and has great knowledge of the game, coaching many great teams in European football. The club has won the English Premier League as many as four times, and in the 2012–2013 football season, Chelsea won the Europa Cup.

It will be good to see the Yokohama ads on the TV screen- Yokohama Tyres and Chelsea AFC

So, I hope it improves in profile. Of course, and we sell more tyres at my garage here in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK. Knowing that Yokohama are a success at motorsport promotions. But I have thought all along that they are only playing to a small audience compared to the big attractions, such as this deal with Chelsea FC, and I know that it will give them greater exposure, but I hope that they do not drift away from their motorsport background.

I myself like to watch football on TV. Subsequently, I have noticed an increase in the TV exposure of tyre companies. Last night, I watched a UEFA Europa League match between Glasgow Celtic and Inter Milan of Italy. So, I could not help but notice the terrific amount of exposure that Hankook Tyres had with pitch-side advertising boards. Even though the Milan players have Pirelli as their shirt sponsor,. So it has to be a thing for the future.

New tyre labelling

New tyre labelling

New tyre labelling

New tyre labelling

So, after much head scratching, we are finally accepting the reputation of the truth relating to the information that tyre manufacturers put on their tyre labels. Of course, in the beginning, we found that economy tyres were marked up to show them as being much better and therefore a better buy than many of the leading brands.

This set up many suspicion’s in my mind. However, after a few years, things appear to have levelled out! Let’s say that some of the figures that went on tyre labels were more  believable.

In fact, we now use these figures as a fairly level playing field when it comes to tyres performing on these labels. This attached article from “Garage Wire” explains the new labelling that will be introduced in May.

“Ensuring Wheel Security: The Significance of Locking Wheel Nuts for Motorists in Halifax, UK”

In the picturesque town of Halifax, where traditional cobblestone lanes intersect with contemporary roads, our automobiles serve as our reliable friends. Regardless of whether you are traversing the historical centre of town or venturing into the picturesque Yorkshire countryside, one aspect stays unchanging: the significance of ensuring the security of your vehicle’s wheels. Locking wheel nuts are essential for drivers in Halifax due to their critical role in vehicle security. Let’s explore the reasons for their importance.

Safeguarding Your Capital: Locking Wheel Nuts Lost

Your car serves as more than a mere means of transportation; it represents an investment in both autonomy and convenience. Therefore, it is inherent to have a desire to safeguard it, particularly in relation to those costly wheels and tyres. Locking wheel nuts serve as protective measures for your wheels, guaranteeing that they remain securely in place on your vehicle.

The topography of Halifax is diverse and varied.

The scenic landscapes of Halifax provide a wide variety of driving experiences. Our vehicles face a range of challenges, from the steep slopes of the metropolis to the twisting country roads of West Yorkshire. Locking wheel nuts offer enhanced security, particularly when driving on difficult terrain or when parking your vehicle alone in public spaces.

The act of deterring thieves: Locking Wheel Nuts Lost

Vehicle theft is a possibility in any location, including our close-knit town of Halifax. Locking wheel nuts serve as a barrier for potential thieves who take advantage of easy opportunities. These specialised nuts necessitate a distinct key for extraction, rendering it notably more arduous for potential wrongdoers to abscond with your wheels. It is akin to adding an additional security measure to protect the precious items in your car.

Ensuring Tranquilly for Motorists in Halifax

Being a proprietor of a garage in Halifax, I have witnessed numerous regrettable occurrences involving pilfered wheels. The tension and inconvenience it induces can be overpowering. Locking wheel nuts offer drivers in our area a sense of security, as they reduce the likelihood of their wheels being easily stolen.

User-friendly

Although you may perceive the addition of this additional security layer as inconvenient, there is no need to worry. Utilising locking wheel nuts is a straightforward process. Upon purchase, you will be provided with a distinctive key that securely slots onto a single wheel nut. Implementing this straightforward measure provides an additional level of protection for your car.

In conclusion :Locking Wheel Nuts Lost

In Halifax, our automobiles are not merely machines but rather important components of our everyday existence. Locking wheel nuts may appear insignificant, but they are crucial for protecting your vehicle and ensuring your peace of mind. Whether you’re exploring the picturesque streets of Halifax or travelling into the breathtaking Yorkshire environment, locking wheel nuts are essential for keeping your wheels securely attached to your car. If you have not done so already, I recommend investing in wheel protectors to ensure the safety and security of your driving experience in Halifax.

So, most people in the auto trade know about the “locking wheel nut problem.

” As a result, cars arrive at our garages and tyre shops with no way of removing the vehicles’ locking wheel nuts. In the beginning, most cars have a set of tools that enable us to remove the locking wheel nuts. These tools are fitted to secure the alloy wheels and prevent theft. Indeed, some alloy wheels are very expensive and an easy target for thieves.

Many modern vehicles are fitted with alloy wheels, and indeed, at one time, they were a selling point when garages sold a new car. In the early days of this, the wheels were often stolen. The alloys were probably sold as scrap and eventually melted down for other uses. Similar to the latest spate of “catalytic converter” thefts that we are having at the moment!

Alloy wheel thefts: what was the answer?

Importantly, the theft problem had to be solved! So, the answer would be the invention of the locking wheel nut. These came in a set of four (one for each wheel). A simple tool would fit on the locker, enabling the driver or garage to remove the locker when required. Over the years, the system has worked, except for a few hiccups!

Mainly, the car owner would lose the lockers, and when the car turns up for, say, a service and needs the wheel removed, “whoops,” there is no locker to remove the wheels. So, this happens time and time again. Fortunately, as an ingenious industry, we again solved the problem. Most garages now carry a special tool that enables us to get the locker nuts off without damaging the car’s valuable alloy wheels.

How not to remove with a saw!

So, I thought that I had seen it all until my staff sent me this image for our blog. One of our customers had attempted to cut out the locker with a hacksaw! This can clearly be seen in the images. What do you think? Have you ever seen anything like this? Please let me know.
