The female customer drove over 20 miles on this punctured Tyre ?
This is one of the strangest stories I have heard in the past two years. A lady customer called in to claim that she had a service done
to her Audi estate about a month ago, and the car was now acting very strangely. She said that when the car was going around the bend, she could feel it swaying slightly, but it was steering perfectly normal on the straight roads. We asked her how long the car had been doing this and she said that for a couple of days or about twenty miles. We went to put the Audi on the ramp, but noticed the car was sloping to one side ?.
When we checked, she had a tyre that was completely ripped off on one of the side walls.
This punctured tyre had in fact been driving with the same characters as Continental Run Flat Tyres for more than twenty miles. The lady customer had not suspected anything because the car had not swerved violently or even veered from side to side, as you might expect from a big car such as the Audi estate.
The Punctured Tyre is the one shown in this blog, and the ripped-off sidewall can be easily seen. Credit should also be given to the Continental Sports Contact that took the battering; although not run-flat, it did remarkably well.
So to follow up on this !
Have you noticed all the old tyre treads and pieces of rubber tyre treads ! That are present on the sides of the roads and motorways. Especially car tyre treads.

It is no surprise to the older drivers amongst us that Michelin Tyres Development has always been at the forefront of tyre design
Ever since I started work as a junior tyre fitter all those years ago. So, I have marveled at the skill and professional work. That Michelin Tyres Development have put into their products. Even going back before my time ! French tyre makers were at the top of tyre development.Subsequently, all the other tyre companies were playing catch-up.
Enter the first steel-belted radial that started it all off for Michelin tyres.
This was to be the tyre that changed their history. Including the great American tyre makers of the time. Of course, this new tyre from Michelin tyreswas to be a far cry from the cross-ply. Significantly, the majority of other European tyre companies make it.. Including the bicycle-belted tyres that were developed in the USA.
The new Michelin Tyres Development was to be known as the Michelin”X”. Consequently, first appearing in 1949 (a year after I was born). This tyre would revolutionise the tyre industry ! a product that would last longer and prove better car handling. Especially for the type of suspension that was used on European cars.
This tyre was to be fitted as original equipment to Lancia and Citroen cars, as well as to the Mercedes 190 SL models.
It took a good ten years before the other tyre makers started to catch Michelin Tyres Development up, all-trying to copy the steel-belted “X” tyre.
Compared to the cross-ply tyre, the radial had many advantages. They gave much better mileage and road holding ( I must admit that when I was in my early tyre fitting days). I can remember drivers complaining about Michelin being bad in wet weather. This also gave added bonus of lower fuel consumption, a great
bonus for some of those old gas-guzzling cars.
This is also the same time that imported cars were coming into the UK, such as the Citroen 2 CV and Renault Dauphins.
More reading… “The Dauphine took over from the 4 CV in 1956, but not as a replacement. The name dauphine (heiress) was highly significant. Release was a major event on the motoring scene, and followed up by a successful career on French and export markets.
Dauphine played its successor’s role to the full, boasting all the latest features of the epoch, such as adjustable seats, heating, and an automatic gearbox. The finish was very smart, with a red and black steering wheel and matching seats. The dashboard layout was uncluttered, and the interior roomy.
Dauphine was a four-seater, with rear bench and two separate seats at the front. In January 1957, the US motoring weekly The Motor crowned it the “prettiest little four-seater in the world”. Sure, it was beautiful, elegant and shapely, totally in keeping with spirit of the 1960s.”…http://www.renault.com/en/vehicules/hier/pages/renault-dauphine.aspx
The Dauphin did not do too well in the “cold, Damp British climate”
So, soon, it had a bad reputation for bad rust. But it did come out on Michelin tyres, and I will never forget. Of course, the first time I had to remove one of these products from the rim. The tyre just fell off the wheel; it was so easy to do. A big improvement on the struggle we had when fitting Dunlops. In those days, we only had a hand-held tyre bead breaker and some tyre levers; balancing was carried out on a small “bubble” wheel balancer, which I still believe never really worked.
To conclude, Michelin Tyres Development has never looked back, not even in the early days. Because of their better cornering, they were used in the early motor-sport cars with great success.
Continental Tyre Advice-Continental tyres make new gadgets
Staying Safe on the Road:
Continental Tyres’ Cutting-Edge Safety Features” Hello everyone! Today, we’ll talk about something important to all drivers: tyre safety. And when it comes to tyres, Continental is synonymous with quality and innovation. However, it is more than just going from A to B; it is also about doing it safely, especially on our often unpredictable UK roads.

It uses tyre sensors to detect tread depth and temperature. If anything appears to be wrong, the motorist receives a warning. Isn’t it handy? Especially when travelling over Yorkshire’s moors on a misty night!
ContiAdapt is another treasure. It regulates tyre pressure and tread based on the driving circumstances. ContiAdapt has your back whether the roads are wet, dry, or covered in snow. Imagine driving around the Lake District in a deluge with your tyres adjusting themselves to keep you safe. That’s not just smart; it’s brilliant!

Waterplaning can be a driver’s nightmare. However, Continental’s tyres are more resistant to aquaplaning due to their sophisticated tread patterns. Their tyres include ingenious grooves that efficiently drain water away, keeping you in control even during those unexpected April showers.
4. A nod to the past.
It’s not only about high-tech wizardry. Continental has existed since 1871, and its path reflects the evolution of transportation. They’ve seen it all, from supplying tyres for the first automobiles to participating in the present car revolution. Eric Roberts‘s insight: New Tyre Advice just one of things to come? Now that we will all be using TPMS systems in the future . So, it comes as no surprise that other gadgets will be developed. Naturally, to aid the motorist. Hence, in the constant drive for more road safety on our cars. This new device from Continental will be no exception. Significantly, will tell the driver if the car is overloaded or not. Overloading is one of the main dangers associated with the cars handling. Of course, this can be very dangerous when cornering with an overloaded car. No doubt there will be many more gadgets coming through in the years to come. Thus, to aid drivers probably on German cars such as the BMW’s and Mercs. Working in conjunction with the German tyre giant Tyre Advice professionals . These devices will also become more common on vehicles such as caravans and motor-homes. So, as they will warn the driver of any loss of air pressure, thus resulting in a safer journey.

The reform was all about setting new rules to take into account the intensity of competition on the markets for the distribution of motor vehicles and spare parts. Also for the provision of repair and maintenance services. It covers cars, trucks, and buses, and all types of garages, small or large.
The Commission found that competition in the market for the sale of new vehicles is strong. In this light, the current sector-specific rules create an unnecessary straitjacket that prevents
car manufacturers from organising their distribution systems as they see fit. TheEuropean Commission has therefore aligned the rules applicable to motor vehicle distribution. This applies with those that apply to distribution agreements in other sectors but with a three-year transition period to allow dealers to adapt to the new measures.
Right to Repair Law
Competition on the markets for repair and maintenance and for spare parts distribution is less intense. Consumers who may suffer harm as a result of anti-competitive practices are at risk. This could push up car repair costs when servicing a car. The garage The repair and maintenance industry is very important for consumers. Not only for reasons of safety and reliability. But also because repair bills account for 40% of the total cost to car owners. Unlike car prices, the cost of the average repair job and servicing has actually risen over the past few years.
Consumers are feeling the effects of rising repair bills.
This also includes servicing costs during the present crisis. They are more price-sensitive and drive older vehicles that require more regular maintenance. The EU Commission has put in place a tougher regime for these markets. They will make it easier to enforce the rules. Particular problematic issues include holding back technical information, not releasing spare parts, and refusing to honour warranties when consumers have their cars repaired at independent garage servicing facilities.
Independent garages and repairers such as Pellon Autocentre
are important because they give consumers more choice. This helps keep the price of servicing and repairs competitive by putting pressure on prices due to competitive pricing. Also to authorised repair networks. But for this to happen, it is essential that garages can get the technical information necessary to do the repairs and carry out the work on increasingly sophisticated cars with increasing amounts of technology.
Right to Repair Law
Since then, withholding “technical information” will be dealt with directly under the EU Treaty rules on restrictive business practices (Article 101). Manufacturers, spare parts shops, and repair shops generally have a market share in excess of 30%. In addition, guidelines are also being brought in and contain detailed clarifications. As to the notion of technical information, cross-referring to Regulation 715/2007 on type approval of certain cars and all subsequent implementing regulations.
New rules will assure that garage servicing companies have access to technical information for models that are type-approved after September 1, 2009. By making a clear link with the 2007 car type approval regulation. The EU Commission will ensure both consistency and access to technical information. cars put in circulation before that date and allow the presentation of technical information to evolve and continue in line with technical progress.
The EU Commission remains committed
to vigorously enforcing the rules on access to technical information. This was demonstrated in four cases brought in 2007. This was to ensure that car manufacturers disclose the necessary information to independent repairers and garage servicing facilities. Garages like Pellon Autocentre are in the Calderdale area of West Yorkshire.
Right to Repair Law
By strengthening the enforcement of competition rules. Including the garage servicing sector and maintenance and spare parts markets. These new laws will contribute to creating a level playing field between car manufacturers, spare part producers, and garage servicing. Thus contributing to lower prices for spare parts. This has to be very good news for the garage servicing , garage repair, and spare parts industries. This result must give us great pride. To all the different groups and individuals that spent hard-earned money lobbying and writing to their EU and local MPs. These new laws are similar to the “right to repair” laws in the USA.
The new “Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation”, will continue to help lower the cost of service” for 13 years until 2023.
The EU Commission will constantly monitor the situation in the markets for motor vehicle and spare parts distribution, as well as in the market for the provision of repair and maintenance services including garage servicing companies. The EU Commission will also monitor the application of the regulation in cooperation with national competition authorities and stakeholders. Once again, the UK garage and motor industry can continue to work hard and give the public the service and competitive pricing they deserve.
Pellon Tyre and Autocentre thinks that the Right to Repair Law, coming from the EU, will be kept when our government decides on which legislation to keep and throw out.
Most ladies are not sure about checking their tyres for wear. Come to think of it, neither do most men. So, the easiest way is to call your local tyre and auto centre. Of course, they would be only too pleased to check on them for you.
You must look for premature, uneven tyre wear. This is usually the first sign of a problem with your steering geometry. Consequently, it could even indicate a major problem with the car’s steering or suspension. Naturally, the first sign is that you will see a bald area appearing on the inside or outside of your front tyres.
So, if you do notice that the tyre is wearing off on one side. TYRE WEAR
If your tyre is worn at the centre, then you are running your tyres with too much pressure. For this reason, this needs to be adjusted. With attention to making sure that the correct pressures are used for your model of car,. Some cars nowadays have their wheels aligned, which means that the rear as well as front wheels may need adjusting. This is particularly common in modern SUV-type vehicles and 4x4s. This regular visual check will also save you money, as a new tyre for these types of vehicles will cost you well over £120 these days.
By having each one checked at regular intervals. TYRE WEAR
You will spot uneven wear at an early stage and prevent damaged and expensive parts from becoming dangerous and costly. Most lady customers and indeed male customers can call into a local, reputabledealer and have a free inspection by one of the staff. There are no excuses.
Another way that you may about a tyre problem
This is only spotted when a new tyre is fitted. Of course, when the customer drives their car on the road for the first time. Firstly, the car steering wheel feels out of line. Pulling the vehicle to one side. Secondly, this is why you should have your Laser Wheel Alignment checked out. Especially, after you have had a new tyre or new tyres fitted. In other words, most garages have now got Wheel Alignment Machines .
customers do not understand the amount of hard work a tyre does. TYRE WEAR
Including, how much punishment tyres take. In the light of them zooming down the motorway at 80 miles a hour. So you see why its so important to check yours at regular intervals. safety is paramount! tyres are the only things between you and an accident. Customers in the Halifax area of West Yorkshire can call in at any time for a free check.
DVSA have agreed with Ministers to make the information publicly available following the announcement by Justine Greening MPin 2012, of the Governments’ commitment to the Garage Customer Experience.
EricRoberts‘s insight:
MOT Garages testing station, owners opinion
So, as the owner of an MOT centre, I am not sure what this will achieve. Consequently, I know that there are thousands of normal garages. Strangely, they claim that they do MOT testing. Incredibly, but in fact do not. What they do is take their customers cars to an approved MOT testing station. Consequently, having what we call “a trade test” carried out.
Of course, I am not saying that the car will not be tested correctly? But the garage does not conduct the test, and they do not have control over the vehicle. However, if the driver has an issue, he can not take it up directly with the testing station.
Customers should look out for the official MOT testing sign, Banned MOT Garages to be Exposed
Concerned car owners should look out for an official MOT sign ! Usually outside the garage premises at the roadside. So it looks the same as the one in the above image. Some garages have lookalike signs but are not official testing stations.
I can only think that garages that have lost their licence: Banned MOT Garages to be Exposed
So, to test cars because of a bad disciplinary record, still carry on taking cars in for testing but have a trade test done at another official testing station under the pretence that they still have a testing licence, or simply do not remove their MOT Garages signs as if they are still testing.
A list of banned testing sites will be published but i wonder who will read them?.
Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have been working in the garage, tyre, and battery business for 40 years. So. I worked for a couple of national tyre companies before starting my first business. Of course, I now own a company here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre. Blogging about anything to do with cars and their related products. Naturally, that will help my business
https://www.pellonautocentre.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/MOT-testing-sign.jpg512512Eric Robertshttps://www.pellonautocentre.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pellon-tyres-logo-509x321.jpgEric Roberts2024-06-24 19:39:322024-06-26 11:35:22Banned MOT Garages to be Exposed
For the car repair garages to survive they must have modern facilities for their customers.
Of course, this is a point I have been making for the past twenty years, at least. American tyre repair companies were the first to supply their customers with a reception. Including a decent waiting room. First, Scottish businessman Tom Farmer replicated this concept. When he visited American Auto centres,. So, on his return home, he decided that this was the way forward. Implementing the new style reception areas into his early Kwik-fit empire.
Successfully, other Car Repair Garages and tyre centres all over the UK began to copy his style of operation. But many of the Auto Repair Services and car repair garages were too small . Subsequently, half of them were just back street dirty places. As a business model . These smaller operations would not have warranted money spending on them.
Generally though things began to improve
Altogether, it was a huge improvement and many tyre depots and Car Repair Garages were brought into the twentieth century and were fit for motorists to sit in while their car was being repaired or their tyres were being fitted.
As time went on, more and more ladies were taking up driving, and the move to step up the facilities in the car repair garages was imminent. The customers wanted a better experience when visiting the garage or tyre depot for work doing on their cars. The main dealer garages started to introduce courtesycars to loan to their customers while work was being carried out on their cars—a good idea!
The courtesy car idea became a little tarnished when some of the garages started to charge for their use, or for insurance. I thought this was a negative affect and was not in the spirit of the idea. We at Pellon Tyres and Autocentre in Halifax UK provide courtesy cars for our customers, mainly because we are about two miles out of the town centre, and it allows our customers to go shopping or to work, while their car is been repaired.
Coffee machines and TV sets were added to receptions
Many of the switched on Car Service Garages offer their clients a free coffee machine in their reception. As well as a TV and up-to-date magazines for their entertainment. While they are waiting for a Car Repairs or an MOT or a tyre fitting. In my opinion this is what today’s modern consumer wants, this coupled with the fact that as I have said earlier, many of our customers are now ladies and they do not want to turn up to a dirty old Car repair garages in their nice clean clothes.
So this standard is the way forward and any garage or tyre fitting station that does not have customer facilities will fall behind and eventually perish.
WASTE TYRE TALK-Looking for a fun and effective new piece of exercise equipment to burn fat and sculpt lean muscle?
Eric Roberts‘s insight:
This is a great way to use an old spare tyres.
I have seen ways of using old tyres . Including “how to keep fit” . Helping to “Get Rid of your Spare Tyre“. Especially in recent times. Reminding me of when I was a young tyre fitter in my twenties. Consequently, I worked for a company in Leeds called Kurt Neilds.
Then owned by Goodyear . Fitting Earthmover tyres for a living. The job was fantastic. We lifted and carried the giant tyres on Euclid Earthmovers and other giant plant hire vehicles, such as Cat Earth-movers like the Cat 631s and Terex dump trucks; we were fit as fiddles” and got paid for it as well.
I only weighed 11 stone and could eat what I wanted
Of course, it is no wonder that the use of tyres has been taken up by sportsmen and women to help them exercise. I was impressed at the way rugby union players played. Who can throw these big tyres about ! So now it looks like old tyres are being used for the exercises.
As described in this article from the WASTE TYRE TALK-Savannah Morning News. I am too old to take this up now but if anybody would like some old spare tyres to train with, you can have them for free here in Halifax.
Old waste tyres are now used for all sorts of things.
One of the main uses is to make them into rubber crumbs so that they can be made into safe flooring for, say, children’s play areas, These are replacing wood chippings that were once used and are much safer for the children to play on.
The waste tyre industry also supplies rubber pellets to cement-making companies to power their cement drying kilns. Also, large amounts of rubber pellets go into the making of tarmac for our roads to give a more cushioned ride and a harder-wearing surface when driven on.
Continental tyres boost high-performance tyres at Korbach plant
RubberNews.com
KORBACH, Germany—Continental A.G.
EricRoberts‘s insight:
Continental tyres keep on moving forward
Significantly, this is just one of the expansion plans. Including a Continental tyre boost for the giant tyre company of Continental. Consequently, the Continental Car Tyres company and all its subsidiaries have leaped ahead of most of its
Continental Seal tyres protect the tyre from nail penetrations like this one. In recent years, there have been some innovative new products, such as the “Seal Tyres,” that contain a protective layer of sealant made of polymers that stop the tyre from deflating when penetrated by a screw or a nail.
Continental Tyre Sport Contacts: Continental tyres boost
The protective layer is inside the sealed tyres, just underneath the tread area. Other products to give Continental tyres a boost include “runflat technology” and new tyres that are greener and lighter to save on emissions for new EVs and electric vehicles, altogether an impressive portfolio of products.
Continental Tyres boosts their market share by continuously adding new tyre products to their range. One of their latest tyre products is a new winter tyre, the Vanco 4 season 2 tyres.
In 2020, Continental Tyres is still steaming ahead as one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers.
Although we here at Pellon Tyres support Continental, we did enjoy the privilege of selling General Tyres. Of course, General was bought out by Continental Tyres for their expertise in the design and manufacture of the General 4×4 tyre range! Including the world-renowned “General Grabber range of 4 x 4 tyres
Of course, General also makes a range of summer tyres and, more importantly, a great winter tyre range. With attention to their range of tyres, they have been able to fit probably 99% of European cars.
Of course, general tyres are also sold in a lower price range. Because of this, the tyres are very popular here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax.
How Continental Tyre’s innovation outperformed its rivals
Hi, you charming bunch! I hope things is okay with you. I have a really intriguing topic to talk about today. We’ll explore how Continental Tire has remained competitive through unrelenting innovation. Well, they have been heavily investing in research and development, and I can assure you that it has been successful. Now grab a beverage, and let’s get to work!
Invent or Perish- Continental tyres boost
First things first: in the world of tyres, if you aren’t rolling forward, you are. That just happens that way. This was something Continental Tyre long before realised, and they made the decision that they would not be passed. No, sir! Instead, they have poured money into R&D like it’s a dying trend.
Discuss Tech Now
Okay, so what have all of these studies and developments produced? We’re basically talking about tyres that last longer, grip better, and even help you save fuel. I’ll spare you the technical language. They have ‘Black Chili Technology’ for better traction and ‘EcoPlus Technology’ for increased fuel efficiency. Magic!
Monitoring the Weather
If you are from the UK, you are aware that our weather makes decisions about going outside more frequently than a cat. There, too, Continental Tire has us covered. Whether it’s pouring down rain or hotter than a vindaloo, their tyres are built to perform in any situation.
Making it Green
Keep your heads on because this is a shocker: they are developing environmentally friendly tyres. Aye, you heard correctly. Continental Tire is already way front of the curve despite all the recent hype of becoming green. sustainability and effectiveness? Count me in!
What Impact Will This Have on Halifax? Continental tyres boost
What does this have to do with Halifax, then? In actuality, quite a bit! Due to our winding roads and erratic weather, we are no strangers to difficult driving conditions. Since I started promoting Continental Tires to my clients, they have all given me excellent feedback. I promise you that these tyres are priceless.
A Conclusion
So, there you have it! Continental Tire is actively altering the game; they are not just sitting around doing nothing. They have successfully repelled competition by putting their money where their mouth is in terms of research and development.
Friends, that’s all for today. You know where to find us if you’re looking for some premium tyres. Drive carefully and keep those wheels rolling until next time.
